It is close to impossible to open a newspaper these days and not stumble across an article about home robots. And although the interest for the little helpers is tremendous, currently available robots don't seem to hold their promise. Little plastic disks claim to vacuum your floor while bouncing aimlessly into your furniture, collecting no more than a tiny box of dust during the course of a day - unless they get caught in the carpet first or fall down the stairs.

Robowerk's approach to robots is fundamentally different. We don't want our robots to be a vacuum cleaner or lawn mower simply because most households already have those machines and they work great. Instead, our robots will be able to operate your vacuum cleaner, to run your lawn mower, to load and unload your washing machine, and to pick up the socks in the bed room.

Granted, the path to these goals is steep, so we are walking it step by step. Our first robot platform has six legs and comes as a kit. Scorpius teaches us the dynamics of walking and carries soda cans and toy bricks. He also has plenty of space for numerous sensors and electronics.

Primus, our soon to be released biped, will be fully articulated using no less than 21 high-torque motors with a price tag lower than any 16-motor  robots. He's about 40cm tall and offers the full range of biped motion. With the support of our Robowerk Software, Primus will not only stand and walk freely, but climb stairs and carry loads.
